The Cast
Jake Gyllenhaal starred in Donnie Darko as Donnie Darko. Although this was not the start of Jake's acting career, it was a film that he certainly became more noticed with. James Duval played Frank in the film. He is best known for his work in Independence Day, Gone in Sixty Seconds, and The Doom Generation. In Donnie Darko, he wasn't given too much screen time because of the story. Most of the time when he was on the screen he was in a bunny costume hiding his identity. Despite the lack of screen time and lines, James still played his part as Frank well. He maintained a certain, non-human supernatural-being feeling when he played the Manipulated Dead Frank, and immediately switched to a typical partying teenager when he became Living Frank. Jena Malone had a similar experience to Jake Gyllenhaal in Donnie Darko. Although it wasn't the start of her acting career, it was a film that definitely got her noticed.
